Abstract Scope |
Supply Chain issues have plagued manufacturers across multiple industries over the past several years and exposed a vulnerability for domestic production capabilities. The MELD technology solves lead time challenges facing maintenance, lifecycle, new construction, and repair for a variety of industries that are typically dependent on sourcing parts or materials from overseas. These problems commonly manifest in the form of long lead time forgings, castings and parts that tend to have traditional manufacturing complexities.
MELD is a solid-state metal advanced manufacturing process that enables parts to be printed in a rapid, repeatable, and reliable manner at a competitive cost, while achieving forged equivalent properties. The MELD technology does this by providing the capability to manufacture legacy parts that no longer exist, parts that aren’t accessible in the field, or parts must be machined out of a solid billet. The MELD technology produces these parts at a rapid pace, reducing 6-12+ month lead times to a matter of days.
The MELD process is capable of printing large metal parts at scales not yet seen in the metal additive space. The key enabler of this scalability is that, unlike traditional additive processes, MELD is not restricted to small powder beds or costly vacuum systems. The MELD process is an open-atmosphere process and is not sensitive to the operating environment or material surface conditions, making it ideal for real-world manufacturing.
This technology allows parts to be made in a way that has never been done before, achieving sizes that have not been thought possible, all while meeting specification requirements.
MELD Manufacturing Corporation is a cutting-edge technology company that specializes in the development and commercialization of metal additive manufacturing. Founded in 2018, MELD has quickly established itself as a leader in the field of 3D metal printing with its proprietary MELD technology, additive friction stir deposition, enabling the production of large-scale metal components with unprecedented speed and efficiency.
MELD offers commercial off-the-shelf machines as well as custom machines. The latest addition to the MELD line-up of printers, 3PO, includes a subtractive component enabling additive and subtractive capabilities in one hybrid machine.
The MELD technology is a solid-state, open-atmosphere process that produces fully dense components. The process is energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, with no melting or welding required, making it ideal for the production of high-performance components in industries such as aerospace, defense, and energy.
MELD’s team of world-class engineers and technicians are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of advanced manufacturing, developing new applications for the MELD process, and working closely with clients to deliver customized solutions that meet and exceed their specific needs. With a commitment to innovation quality, and customer satisfaction, MELD is poised to revolutionize the way we think about metal manufacturing. |
