Abstract Scope |
Understanding the impact of external stimuli on plants is crucial for multiple fields, ranging from fundamental knowledge of plant growth to adapting agricultural practices in the face of changing climate conditions. Such studies can also contribute to new bioinspired design strategies in engineering. One area of particular interest is the examination of plant adaptations to increasing salt salinity, which finds application in biodesign strategies for next-generation systems daunted by mass transport challenges. Here, we present structural and physiological modifications in the vascular tissue of sunflower plants exposed to escalating salt presence. We discuss the outcome in the context of biodesign strategies and sustainability practices. By understanding how plants respond and adapt to salt salinity, we can derive valuable knowledge applicable to agriculture, engineering, and sustainability practices, contributing to more effective and resilient strategies in the face of climate change. |
