Abstract Scope |
Laser powder bed fusion is a powerful technique that manufactures metal parts out of layers of metal powder. In this work, we present a virtual reality (VR) model which can be used to educate users about this process. We use a simulation technique that allows an arbitrary mesh to be sliced into cross sections, which can then be printed layer by layer. This allows for the simulated printing of various objects, and it provides more insight into the printing process. In addition to running the models in VR, we also developed another version of the simulation that runs on web browsers, thus minimizing potential uncomfortableness of certain users using VR. |
