Abstract Scope |
To optimize alloy design of binary titanium alloys, we introduce and evaluate a novel method to fabricate compositionally graded sputter deposited foils thicker than 100um. Samples are heat treated to create bulk-like materials. Here, we focus on two titanium binary systems, Ti-V and Ti-Mo, where we characterize the microstructure and mechanical properties like hardness and tensile strength. Using this methodology, we aim to find a range of compositions and processing parameters that provide superior strength and stability at higher temperatures, as well as accelerate materials discovery and development. Future work will include using laser passes to manufacture bulk samples containing characteristic solidification induced microstructures. |
