Abstract Scope |
Metal Additive using Powder-Sheets (MAPS) is an emerging additive manufacturing process where a composite polymer-powder feedstock is irradiated by a laser in a layer-by-layer manner. Recently this technology demonstrated strong printability in a range of materials, specifically the high-entropy-alloy CrCoMnFeNi. The polymer-powder-laser interactions yields altered melt pool dynamics and hence interesting mechanical properties whilst maintaining solid solution phases. A thorough study was conducted utilizing in-situ melt pool analysis, combined with microstructural and phase characterization using XRD and EBSD. Varying feedstock qualities such as thickness, powder packing density and polymer concentration has been proven to be an additional route in customizing material properties. These studies reveal the prospective for novel applications in coatings, multi-material and functionally gradient materials. |
