Abstract Scope |
An abnormal increase in hardness has been observed in the literature for a cold-rolled Cantor (CrMnFeCoNi) alloy and the ternary CrCoNi alloy annealed at 773 K, where almost no recrystallization occurred. This phenomenon, which is not fully understood, could inform the development of improved processing routes for multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs). In this study, the alloys were fabricated using arc-melting, homogenized, cold-rolled to a 76% reduction, and recrystallized to different grain sizes. The alloys were then annealed at temperatures of 673 K, 773 K, and 873 K for 1 hour each. Hardness analysis, performed with a Vickers microindenter, revealed that the sample annealed at 773 K exhibited the highest hardness value. These findings suggest that specific annealing conditions can significantly enhance the mechanical properties of MPEAs, providing valuable insights for future alloy design and processing optimization. |
