Abstract Scope |
Deformation twinning is a major deformation mode in low symmetry materials. Recent insight into three-dimensional nature of deformation twin networks have shown that the local twin interaction is far more complex than previously believed. The complexity of the twin networks has been shown to significantly alter the mechanical properties of Ti. In this study, we examined the effect of different pre-deformed deformation twin networks on the deformation and failure response of Titanium. In situ SEM mesoscale through-thickness tensile testing of pure Ti with different pre-deformation twin networks were performed. Three-dimensional electron backscatter diffraction of the deformed tensile bars was collected as a function of applied strain. Failure behaviors will be examined with respect to the local twin configuration. |
