The microstructural evolution during hot compression of Ti-6Al-4V (α + β) and Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al (metastable β) alloys was studied in order to discuss the effect of phase topology. Two initial microstructures will be presented for each alloy, with equiaxed α phase or with lamellar α phase. Deformation temperatures were set at 950°C and 750°C for the Ti-6Al-4V and the Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al double-cone samples, being 50°C below the α + β / β phase transus temperature for each one. At these temperatures the α phase fraction of the previously mentioned alloys are 36% and 24%, respectively. The samples were deformed to an equivalent strain level of 1.3 at 0.1s-1 strain rate. Crystalline orientation maps were acquired by EBSD. Dislocation densities evaluated from the analysis of intragranular misorientations in each phase will be compared to those obtained from macroscopic flow stress analysis. |
