Abstract Scope |
Analysis of the local yield surfaces for regions of a two-dimensional Lennard-Jones glass reveal features that exhibit Mohr-Coulomb behavior. This behavior arises from shear transformation zones (STZs) that can be uniquely characterized by their displacement fields. The resulting yield surface can be described in terms of the properties of a discrete set of STZs, and a typology of these rearrangements is proposed originating from a principle component analysis of the data. Statistics regarding the reference yield stresses and pressure dependence of these STZs reveal a signature of the underlying glass' microstructure with potential relevance for characterizing its plastic susceptibility. |
