Abstract Scope |
Magnesium (Mg) alloys with rare-earth additions have existed for decades. Numerous studies have examined the impact of rare-earth elements (e.g., Y, Ce, La) to date. Few research have examined adding Erbium (Er) to Mg. The effects of Er addition on Mg alloys will be discussed in this talk. Research suggests that nano-sized precipitates can impact the mechanical and corrosion properties of Mg alloy systems. Thus, solutionized and aged Mg-Er alloy is characterized by atom probe tomography (APT) for precipitates and clusters, and their respective size, shape, and composition. This affects the novel Mg-based alloy design. |
