Abstract Scope |
Deformation-induced microstructural changes and strain localization are important processes that affect various mechanical properties of multi-phase alloys. Numerous in-situ deformation studies have been actively carried out to understand deformation micromechanisms in these alloys. In-situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) provides insights into strain localization processes as well as the deformation-induced local microstructure evolution. In-situ synchrotron high energy X-ray diffraction (HEXRD) provides quantitative information on deformation-induced global phase, (lattice) stress, and texture evolution. This presentation will introduce the recent developments and applications of these two in-situ experimental methods. In particular, the current challenges and the proposals to tackle these challenges will be discussed with examples multiphase steels, including martensitic stainless steel with reverted austenite. These new proposals help more deeply investigate the deformation and transformation micromechanisms of multi-phase alloys, and provide guidelines for optimized microstructure design with desired properties. |
