Abstract: The by-product semisteel, produced in the titania slag-smelting process of ilmenite with an electric furnace, has low additional value due to its low carbon and high sulfur contents. An iron powder fabrication process combining a rotary cup atomizer with water curtain was applied to enhance the added value of semisteel, as well as reducing the water and energy consumption. The effect of cup diameter and rotary speed on particle size of iron powder was investigated in this study. Results indicated that the accumulative fraction of the obtained iron powder that measured less than 0.45 mm reached a maximum of 95.65 wt. % when the cup diameter and rotary speed were 150 mm and 2100 rpm.
