Abstract Scope |
Inconel 718 is a highly utilized superalloy prized for its superior properties in high-temperature applications. Despite being one of the few commercially printable alloys, the inconsistencies in its properties cast doubt on its reliability. The main challenge is identifying the key elements and processing parameters responsible for these uncertainties. Here, we have combined machine learning with CALPHAD-based ICME techniques to simulate and analyze both aged and as-printed microstructural features. The alloy’s properties hinge on the stability of its strengthening and detrimental phases in the microstructure. Through global sensitivity analysis, we quantified the impact of each alloying element on the variability of these phases. Furthermore, we extended our investigation to understand how different heat treatment standards affect these sensitivities and cause uncertainty in the microstructural features. We will discuss how these various sources of uncertainty will propagate to the uncertainty in properties to delineate potential design pathways to achieve robust properties. |
