Abstract Scope |
Ni-doped alkali borosilicate glasses with the composition of 16M2O–10B2O3–74SiO2 (M=Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs) had been studied before to better understand the effect of different modifier cations on the glass structure and on Ni speciation. Raman and infrared spectroscopy revealed changes in borate speciation, bridging and non-bridging oxygen distribution as well as in intermediate-range structures that coincided with a maximum in the packing density for the K-glass. The high field strength Li-glass showed sub-liquidus phase separation, which might also be seen for the new alkaline earth glass series with (M=Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba). In addition to vibrational spectroscopy, thermal and optical properties, crystallization and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), as well as dissolution studies will be presented for glasses. |
