Abstract Scope |
Most layered oxide materials go through two steps of processing during chemical exfoliation into nano-sheets; protonation and intercalation with bulky molecules. In addition to the nanosheets, the intermediate states have been found useful in applications such as catalysis, in fact better than nanosheets in some cases highlighting that their effectiveness is not only related to surface area. Several examples applied to exfoliation products of LiCoO2 include, methylene blue degradation, carbon monoxide oxidation, and ammonium perchlorate combustion. The nanosheets are also used in pickering emulsions, or those stabilized by solid particle surfactants, as well-established platforms for the production of different composite materials. For example, cobalt oxide nanosheets can be used to prepare nanosheet-armored particles which activate an oxidant for catatlytic destruction of bisphenol A. Alternatively, polymer particles armored with transition metal carbide nanosheets can be used as a feedstock to produce films for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. |
