Abstract Scope Magnesium is used in industries such as automotive and aerospace. It has the highest strength-to-weight ratio lowest density metal because its density is half that of aluminium. It also could reduce fuel consumption. Titanium is particularly interesting for the aircraft industry due to high strength-to-weight ratio and exceptional corrosion resistance. Magnesium and titanium alloys are commonly used in the aerospace and automotive industries. Titanium is limited due to its high cost compared to other metals. Components made of aluminium, magnesium, and titanium, and their combinations, on the other hand, are expected to have a growing impact on future developments, particularly where lightweight is required to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Lightweighting, a process of reducing the weight of a vehicle or aircraft, has been identified to significantly lower carbon emissions and increase fuel/battery economy. As a result, the aerospace and automotive industries desperately need high-performance, low-cost metals.
