Abstract Scope |
Two-dimensional transition metal carbo-chalcogenides (TMCCs) combine features of 2D MXenes and 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), integrating the carbide core of MXenes with the chalcogenide surface of TMDCs. These materials resemble MXenes but feature a chalcogen surface, and they are synthesized using a straightforward solid-state method, avoiding the complexities of MAX phases synthesis and etching. This method enables the production of tens of grams in laboratory settings without hazardous acids. We have pioneered the synthesis of the first TMCC family members, Nb2S2C and Ta2S2C, and their solid solution through liquid exfoliation using mechanochemical lithium intercalation. In this presentation, we will discuss the latest advancements in synthesizing multilayer TMCCs and their exfoliation into 2D sheets. Additionally, we will examine the effects of different transition metals on TMCC properties and their performance in applications such as energy storage and conversion electrodes. |
