Abstract Scope |
In materials design, the primary goal is to determine the right chemical and processing conditions to achieve desired properties, typically focusing on process-property (PP) relationships while often overlooking the role of microstructure except in specific cases like architected materials. This study introduces a novel microstructure-aware Bayesian optimization framework that incorporates microstructure knowledge explicitly in the design process, showing that full accounting of process-structure-property (PSP) relationships does indeed contribute to faster alloy optimization. We show how can the framework can not only accelerate the alloy optimization process but also provides, automatically, with insights as to the microstructural features responsible for the properties being optimized, closing the loop of understanding of (inverse) property-structure relationships. |
