Abstract Scope |
The development of magnetic Mn-Zn ferrite (MnxZn1-xFe2O4) “Curie” particles (CPs) for magnetocuring applications will be delineated. Magnetocuring, a novel, sustainable, energy efficient, manufacturing technology, employs alternating magnetic fields (AMF) for thermal curing of polymers and adhesives which are embedded with CP. This technology ensures temperature failsafe curing; the heating ceases above the Curie temperature (Tc), preventing scorching. A high Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of the CP is also required. The compositions to produce CP with the desired Tc and high specific absorption rate (SAR) were identified. The loss mechanisms leading to high SAR were studied. Magnetocuring was performed on thermoplastic PMMA containing CP composites for adhesive applications and the properties were evaluated. This research is funded by the Competitive Research Programme under grant ID: NRF-CRP29-2022-0002. |
