Abstract Scope |
We used diffuse and resonant x-ray scattering to examine chemical short-range ordering in HEA alloys. We examined binary NiV, ternary NiCoCr and quaternary FeMnAlC compositions. Alloys were processed by high temperature annealing at different temperatures and times. Resonant diffuse scattering at low Q range covering nominal superlattice peaks was carried out at V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni and Fe K absorption edge. In addition, high energy diffuse diffraction was measured in a transmission geometry. Both resonant and diffuse scattering showed prominent CSRO in NiV and FeMnAlC alloys, whereas nothing was observed in NiCoCr. Fitting of diffuse peaks indicated complex ordering in domains with [100] and [1,1,0] directions. Development of ordering directions and peaks width was dependent on the annealing procedures.
