Abstract Scope |
The pilot of the novel gas scrubbing technology Pot Integrated Abart (PIA) developed by REEL is currently being tested at Alcoa Mosjøen. The project has moved into continuous long-term testing. Results and findings from the trial runs during the spring and early summer of 2024 indicate good overall performance. The gas before and after the PIA was monitored by online and extractive analysis. It appeared that more than 99.5 percent of the incoming HF was adsorbed. Variations in the performance over time were monitored. The impact the PIA had on the associated electrolysis cell was monitored by collecting key cell parameters such as fluoride concentration and fluoride additions. These results were also used to assess the dynamics of the fluoride balance between the cell and PIA. SO2 was also monitored to understand the sulfur mass balance. |
