Abstract Scope |
Formation of the Komplex state in Ni – Cr systems, has previously been linked to numerous anomalous physical property measurements, with electrical resistivity, hardness and lattice parameters frequently cited as indicators of local lattice effects. Similarly, observations of serrated flow in Ni-superalloys and MPEAs have further contributed to suggestions of short-range order (SRO) as a primary contributor to alloy strengthening and deformation behaviour. However, direct correlation of local lattice ordering to observed physical properties has yet to be investigated in great detail. Recent advancements in Total Scattering may provide a route to directly probe local order in metallic systems, yielding a firm link between properties and order. The present work discusses observed mechanical, electrical and lattice properties of Ni – Cr binary system, with these effects correlated with neutron total scattering data. The limitations of both scattering and bulk analysis are considered critical to eliminating existing ambiguity in the field. |
