Abstract Scope |
The interest in fusion power has prompted the exploration of molten fluorides for applications beyond fission. A critical aspect of developing molten salt liquid blankets for fusion power systems is gaining a comprehensive understanding of the compatibility between potential structural materials and FLiBe (lithium-beryllium fluoride). This study focuses on the compatibility assessment between potential structural materials and FLiBe in developing molten salt liquid blankets for fusion reactors. Static corrosion testing is conducted on various alloy materials immersed in molten FLiBe salt, and the corrosion outcomes are analyzed. Insights from FLiBe corrosion testing experiences will be shared, along with a comparison of corrosion attacks on these alloys in FLiBe and FLiNaK salts. This assessment offers valuable insights into the similarities and differences of corrosion mechanisms in FLiBe and FLiNaK. The limited availability of FLiBe corrosion testing data highlights the benefit of bridging to corrosion testing in FLiNaK. |
