Abstract Scope |
The risk in supply chain of critical raw materials as nickel, cobalt and lithium put pressure for the search of new sources to attend the demand of low-carbon technologies. Recycling is important to promote the circular economy and increase their supply. The main challenge of Li-ion batteries recycling from electric vehicles is the possibility to recycling most of all types of batteries in a flexible process. This work presents a flexible hydrometallurgical process to recover metals from different types of batteries, including NMC, NCA and LFP batteries. The process recovers plastics and case material after physical treatment. Leaching using acids extract over 95% of the metals present in the cathode. Separation and purification steps obtain different products. Different possibilities are presented, considering precipitation, solvent extraction, and electrodialysis. Products with purity between 90-98% may be obtained from cathode materials, including the resynthesis of cathode. |
