Abstract Scope |
The present study investigated the effect of different strain rates on mechanical and fractographic behaviour of pristine silica based optical fibres. Fibers with diameter 80, 200 and 250 microns were destructively tested using an Ultimate Testing Machine at variable strain rates and break ends were collected to further investigate the fractographic behaviour of the fibers. Fractographic behaviour of the fiber is investigated using an optical microscope in conjugation with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results highlight the influence of fiber diameter on the mechanical behavior of optical fiber under different strain rates. |
