Abstract Scope |
Recently, much attention has been paid to solid-state additive manufacturing such as friction surfacing. Achieving the solid-state manufacturing process leads to forming products with lower energy cost compared with melting processes. In this research, a new solid-state manufacturing method based on friction surfacing was developed. A metal plate was used as base metal, and a metal round bar was used as consumable material. A metal jig was attached at the tip of the round bar and able to move freely along the longitudinal direction of the round bar. As a result of this novel method, the layer was formed with improved symmetry compared to that of conventional friction surfacing. In addition, no defects were observed in the cross-section of the obtained layer. The novel friction surfacing is expected to be an effective process to obtain various metal components with high strength and reliability. |
