Abstract Scope |
Backstress development in sheet metals can have a strong influence on deformation behavior and subsequent springback. However, there are a limited number of techniques for quantifying backstress. The stress dip test, originally employed to study creep, is used in this paper to characterize the development of backstress with deformation in both grade 4 titanium and Ti-6AL-4V. The experimental testing is complemented with crystal plasticity modeling, with an incorporated phenomenological backstress law, for better interpretation of the data. The intent of the study is to provide insights into fundamental microstructure-level response of titanium during forming operations. |
