Abstract Scope |
Titanium alloys are utilized in various industrial applications due to its advantage of strength and weight characteristics. However, titanium alloys are very susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement when exposed to hydrogen rich deleterious environments which render them vulnerable to failure.
This parametric study was aimed to test commercial pure titanium alloys in hydrochloric and sulphuric acids at different load and temperature conditions using a constant load technique.
Constant load method can produce reliable information about the material behavior in deleterious environments in shorter period of time than conventional methods which makes it a suitable testing method for this alloy and testing conditions.
The date produced can be used to predict material behavior and the micro structural analysis can depict the cracking mechanism.
The hydrate formation played an important role in the material behavior which was confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy. |
