Abstract Scope |
Electronic waste (e-waste) has recently gained significant attention due to its potential for resource recovery. In 2020, Indonesia launched its first formal e-waste pick-up program, with Jakarta, the capital city, as the first city to implement the program. While efforts to address issues of e-waste have been increased, the overall environmental impact on e-waste collection and recycling processes in Jakarta remained unknown. This study aims to assess the carbon footprint of e-waste collection and recycling processes in Jakarta. The research focused on the formal e-waste management sector, including waste collection, transportation, and recycling of e-waste through black copper smelting process. The carbon footprint analysis was used to evaluate the total greenhouse gas emissions generated. Data was collected from three main e-waste sources: the pick-up program, drop boxes, and recovery facilities. The results highlight the importance of developing more efficient and sustainable e-waste management strategies. |
