Abstract Scope |
In the present work, rocker arm low alloy AISI 8620 steel and needle-nose pliers martensitic stainless AISI 420 steel were obtained from melting and gravity casting processes. The as-cast steel specimens were microstructural and mechanically characterized by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and hardness test. Both steel specimens were heat treated, by homogenizing. To determine the heat treatment temperature, Thermo-Calc software was applied using the chemical composition. Thermo-Calc also calculates the equilibrium pseudobinary phase diagrams. To calculate the heat treatment time, DICTRA software was applied using data obtained from the chemical analysis of the microstructure. For the AISI 8620 steel, the temperature and time of homogenizing were 900°C and 8x104s (22h), respectively, and for the AISI 420 steel, these were 1040°C and 7x104s (19h), respectively.-The homogenizing treatment is consistent with the calculated parameters. |
